What is a specialist dyslexia teacher?

A specialist dyslexia teacher is highly trained to support children who struggle with reading, writing, and spelling, using methods specifically designed for dyslexia. I hold a Level 5 qualification in dyslexia teaching and am a certified Orton-Gillingham (OG) practitioner — one of the most respected, evidence-based approaches for children with dyslexia.

The Orton-Gillingham method is considered the gold standard for dyslexia teaching. It is structured, explicit, and multi-sensory, meaning children learn through seeing, hearing, and doing, which helps them connect letters, sounds, and words in a lasting way.

What My Lessons Include

  • Individualised teaching: Lessons are tailored to your child’s specific strengths and challenges.

  • Step-by-step instruction: Clear, structured guidance to help children understand letters, sounds, and words.

  • Multi-sensory learning: Children learn through seeing, hearing, and doing, making reading and writing stick.

  • Confidence-building: Focused practice helps children feel capable and motivated.

  • Evidence-based strategies: Using proven methods, including the Orton-Gillingham approach, to support reading and spelling.

  • Parental support: I equip families with practical skills and strategies to reinforce learning at home.

  • Progress-focused: Lessons aim to build skills, independence, and a love of learning, not just short-term fixes.

“The results have been amazing. She’s more confident in her writing and her ability to retain what she has learned. I feel we can use it in so many other aspects of her education.”
